I think it’s interesting to examine themes across famous love stories throughout time. I feel like in most love stories, “the star crossed lovers” theme is present. When examined, that is true from the earliest of love stories to the ones now. Earlier love stories such as Tristan and Isolde and Romeo and Juliet would take dramatic turns for the worst “death” but as love stories progressed things got less over-dramatic. The sexual intensity in the love stories throughout time have changed as well. Take for example, Jane Eyre. Jane Eyre and Edward Rochester did not consummate their relationship at all. Even kissing, was considered inappropriate. This was in the 1800s. Fast forward to today and we have erotic romances like that in “Fifty Shades of Grey.”
